Sheryl Crow wishes Pavarotti well in cancer battle

ROME: Sheryl Crow, the singer-guitarist who had breast cancer surgery last year, has wished Luciano Pavarotti well in his own battle against cancer, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Crow spoke about the "maestro" on the Italian resort island of Ischia, where she received a music award.

Pavarotti underwent surgery after his pancreatic cancer was discovered last year.

"Best wishes to maestro Pavarotti, that he can survive this terrible illness, an experience that I, too, had, and that made me stronger today," ANSA quoted the singer as saying.

ANSA said Crow was on the island in the Gulf of Naples with her son, whom she adopted a couple of months ago.
"Thanks to him (the baby), I work much better. Two days ago, I finished cutting an album," she was quoted as saying.

"It was a terrible year for me," ANSA quoted her as saying. "I was, above all, very much in pain for the end of a love story," Crow said, referring to her broken engagement with cycling champion Lance Armstrong in February 2006.

"There were tough moments, during radiation therapy, but then it was the same pain to make me what I am today and what I wanted to be," the nine-time Grammy winner was quoted as saying.

Last week, Pavarotti's manager said the 71-year-old tenor was teaching and working on a recording of sacred music.
