New Delhi: After vociferously and unabashedly expressing her opinion on the matter of sex education in India, Union Women and Child Development Minister, Renuka Chowdhry is on the warpath again.
This time she has a note of caution for all women of the country. Speaking at a meeting of the National Women Forum of Indian Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS, she said women should not just trust the men to protect them against the disease.
"Women in India have to ensure their own protection and not depend on the men," she said.
She added that women have to learn to get condoms so that they are safe against the disease and said that there was nothing embarrassing about going into a drugstore and buying a pack of condoms.
''You cannot trust men or your husbands. If you believe that men will be careful, then you can forget about protecting yourself," she said.
"Men will not buy a condom when they come home drunk and staggering. Women need to get condoms to protect themselves. Let the men be suspicious," she added.
She rounded up the talk by saying, "This moral hypocrisy that we posture with, is only going to hurt our citizens a lot more. Leaders, opinion makers, and politicians must make it mandatory to talk on these issues in whichever forum they could."
"If we don't, we are going to affect the generations to come, and we'll have to be guilty of it," she finished.
