Mohamed Massaquoi in Kenema Marie Stopes Sierra Leone, a health service provider organization, has taken a giant step by establishing a regional clinic in Kenema, to ensure that issues of teenage pregnancy, malnutrition, mother to child HIV/AIDS transmission and other health related issues are addressed in Sierra Leone.
Head of Marie Stopes Kenema branch Dr. Yvonne Harding disclosed to Concord Times that they have extended their service to the eastern region on the request of people who are in need of good health care services.
She said her organization's primary responsibility is to provide primary health care services for women and children, especially for pregnant teens and those suffering from malnutrition, HIV/AIDS and other health care issues.
"Government cannot single-handedly provide all the health needs of our people, it is a collaborative effort by all partners of which Marie Stopes is one of them," she said. "We have not come to criticize those who have been working in the health sector. Marie Stopes is working in partnership with the government hospital and the NGOs to ensure proper health care service for the people." Harding said they are operating on a cost recovery base in which they provide intensive and extensive health service for those who are seriously sick and cannot easily access the clinic. The Medical Superintendent of the Kenema government hospital Dr.
Ibrahim Koroma lauded Marie Stopes for undertaking the venture. He said over the years, Marie Stopes has performed extremely well in delivering health care service. He advised lactating mothers and teenagers to seek out the services of Marie Stopes.
