Jason’s Deli tries something new

With one look at its design, decor and menu, it’s clear that Jason’s Deli is trying to bring a new experience to the residents of Flower Mound.

The neighborhood deli, which is located at Highland Ranch, 6020 Prairie Road, will be based around a family focused theme.

“We wanted to create a deli with more of a community concept. It will be more of a walk-in and pick up deli. There will be no delivery or catering services provided here,” said Lee Greer, director of marketing for Jason’s Deli.

At this location, catering will have to be picked up. “We wanted to take Jason’s Deli to the smaller communities because the demand is there. Flower Mound is an ideal place to create our deli because the demographics are excellent and it’s a new and growing area.”

Jason’s Deli not only reduced its services to fit the theme it is going for, but it also reduced its menu and seating.

“Our menu is decreased by 30 percent. We put our most popular items on the menu. We have also placed more health conscious foods on the menu because we want people to understand we are making real food that is trans-fat free,” said Erin Young, marketing and catering manager. “We are going to have 96 seats at this deli compared to our other delis which seat 200.”

The menu still includes selections such as soups, pastas, box lunches and sandwiches, but it also offers some new items like the Italian Pasta Salad Bowl and the fresh relish tray for those that are health conscious.

Staff will also be decreased because of the smaller menu and the deli will operate using a point of sale system.

“The staff will be half the size of the larger delis. The large delis have around 45 to 65 employees. Here we are hiring around 30 to 35 people. We think it will be easier to produce food for our dine-in and take-out in the smaller deli,” said Lisa Johnson, general manager. “We will also have a point of sale terminal that will be used when people call ahead and place their orders. People will be able to pick up their food through our pick up window.”

The deli is scheduled to open on July 30. Its hours of operation will be 11a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Sunday.

“We feel like we have a product and a concept that addresses the concerns of the families in Flower Mound and health, quality, value and convenience are part of our concerns,” Young said.
