Morning Sickness
Morning Sickness affects many but not all women. "Morning sickness" isn't necessarily confined to the morning hours. Try eating smaller meals of simple foods, avoiding spicy and highly acidic foods and lie down for just a few minutes immediately after eating. You want to keep your stomach half full at all times. If your nausea is severe, try eating a dry saltine cracker just before getting out of bed in the morning. Sometimes a little bland food in the stomach will help you keep down a breakfast later.
You might also try some of these
* Eat bread or crackers before getting out of bed in the morning
* Get out of bed slowly -- Don't jump up!
* Try yogurt, 4oz of low-fat milk, or juice before bedtime
* Cold foods like sandwiches have fewer odors. Use your microwave to cook
* Avoid greasy, fried foods or spicy, heavily seasoned foods
* Carry a cloth handkerchief with you to breathe into when a particular odor or perfume is bothering you
* Tart and salty foods may work like lemonade and saltines
* Try Gatorade, make ice cubes with it to suck on-it is less sweet
* When sick, get fresh air, open a window in the car, take deep breaths and sip soda water or gingerale
Few women suffer with nausea after the fourth month, but if it is unusually severe, call us. You need to keep some food down to grow a healthy baby and prevent dehydration. Medication is usually reserved for those who have significant vomiting or dehydration. Try taking your prenatal vitamin at different times of the day when nausea is not a problem.
